Manuscript Preparation

Authors should read the aims and scope before submission. Manuscripts must be original, clearly written and not under review elsewhere.

Article types

  • Original research articles
  • Comparative and historical studies
  • Textual, philosophical and interpretive studies
  • Ethnographic and sociological research
  • Systematic reviews, research notes and scholarly perspectives

Scholarly approach

State the research question, comparative framework, sources, methods and limitations clearly. Avoid treating traditions as uniform or timeless, and distinguish participants' accounts from the author's analytical claims.

Languages, sources and transliteration

Identify editions, archives, translations and original-language sources. Use a recognized transliteration system consistently and provide English translations for non-English quotations.

Ethics and community respect

Research involving people or communities must report ethics approval where required, informed consent, privacy safeguards and respectful handling of sacred, restricted or culturally sensitive knowledge.

Review files

Provide a separate title page and anonymized manuscript for double-blind review. Disclose funding, competing interests, author contributions, permissions and material use of generative AI.
