Author Guidelines

Authors should read the aims and scope before submission. Manuscripts must be original, clearly written and not under review elsewhere.

Reporting and interpretation

State the research question, social and historical context, conceptual framework and contribution. Describe participants, communities, texts, archives, datasets, sampling, fieldwork and analysis in sufficient detail. Distinguish sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression and sexuality where relevant, explain how categories were defined, and avoid treating categories as universal or fixed.

Ethics, safety and respectful representation

Research involving people requires appropriate ethics review and informed consent. Studies involving discrimination, violence, health, sexuality, migration, criminalization or marginalized communities must address confidentiality, trauma, safeguarding, legal risk and the possibility of re-identification. Use participants' self-identification and explain researcher positionality, relationships and power dynamics.

Data and transparency

Include a Data Availability Statement. Deposit de-identified data, codebooks, instruments, analytic code and supporting materials when ethical and lawful. Qualitative researchers should document analytic processes while protecting participants, communities and sensitive locations. Explain restrictions clearly.

Review files

Provide a separate title page and anonymized manuscript for double-blind review. Disclose funding, competing interests, author contributions and material use of generative AI.
