Identity, Language, Cultural Materials and Permissions

Authors should define identity categories, explain who assigned them, and distinguish sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression and sexuality where relevant. Respect names, pronouns and community-preferred language while acknowledging variation and contested terminology.

Obtain permission to reproduce photographs, artwork, social-media material, interviews, private communications and copyrighted cultural texts. Public availability does not automatically remove ethical obligations to individuals and communities.
