Research Ethics, Human Data and Responsible Computing

Research involving human participants, user studies, identifiable data or sensitive communities requires appropriate ethics review and informed consent. Authors must describe recruitment, compensation, consent, privacy protection and data governance.

Work involving surveillance, biometric identification, autonomous systems, cybersecurity, high-impact decision making or dual-use capabilities must address foreseeable harms, safeguards and responsible disclosure. Editors may decline work whose risks cannot be responsibly communicated.
