Environmental research
State the environmental problem, study area, question and contribution clearly. Describe sampling design, spatial and temporal coverage, instruments, laboratory procedures, quality control, statistical methods and uncertainty sufficiently for assessment and replication.
Sustainability claims
Define the environmental, social and economic dimensions being assessed. Identify baselines, indicators, system boundaries, trade-offs and limitations. Avoid broad claims of sustainability, restoration or climate benefit that are not supported by the study design and evidence.
Fieldwork, permits and communities
Report permits, ethics approval, land-access authorization and informed consent where applicable. Research involving protected areas, threatened species, Indigenous or local knowledge, community participation or sensitive locations must respect legal requirements, safety, benefit sharing, cultural protocols and confidentiality.
Data and declarations
Include statements on data availability, funding, competing interests, author contributions and material use of generative AI. Provide coordinates only when disclosure will not create conservation, cultural or security risks.
Review files
Provide a separate title page and anonymized manuscript for double-blind review.
