Research Ethics, Archives, Oral History and Cultural Materials

Historical research must comply with repository rules, access restrictions, privacy law and relevant ethics requirements. Authors should identify permissions, closures, embargoes and conditions affecting quotation or reproduction.

Oral-history and community-based research requires informed consent and clear agreements on recording, attribution, anonymity, storage, future use and withdrawal where applicable. Work involving sacred, Indigenous, traumatic or contested materials must respect cultural protocols, custodial rights and potential harms to living people and communities.
