Texts, Translations and Permissions

Identify editions, passages, manuscripts, archival sources and translations accurately. Provide original-language text when it is important to the argument and practical to do so. Mark the author's own translations and explain significant interpretive choices.

Authors must obtain permission for protected text extracts, translations, images, diagrams and archival material not covered by a lawful exception or compatible licence. Citation does not automatically authorize extensive reproduction.
