Photographs, Captions, Editing and Permissions

Identify photographs accurately with creator, title or description, date, process, source, collection, photographer and rights statement where relevant. Authors must obtain permission for protected photographs and archival material not covered by a lawful exception or compatible licence.

Disclose material cropping, retouching, compositing, removal, colour alteration, staged reconstruction and synthetic content. Documentary or evidentiary images must not be changed in ways that mislead readers. Captions should distinguish observed fact from interpretation.
