Photography Ethics, Subjects and Consent

Research and practice involving identifiable people, vulnerable communities, private places, sensitive events or culturally restricted knowledge requires appropriate ethics review and consent where applicable.

Authors must consider dignity, safety, power, representation, compensation, attribution and future image circulation. Public visibility does not remove every ethical obligation. Photographs of children, patients, trauma, conflict, sacred practices or people at risk require heightened safeguards.
