IJBS publishes research that advances knowledge of plants, algae and their diversity, structure, function, evolution and relationships with the environment.

• Plant taxonomy, nomenclature, systematics and phylogenetics
• Plant morphology, anatomy, cytology and development
• Plant physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology
• Genetics, genomics and plant evolution
• Plant ecology, biogeography and vegetation science
• Bryology, pteridology, phycology and palaeobotany
• Ethnobotany, economic botany and useful plant resources
• Plant conservation, restoration and invasive species
• Herbaria, botanical collections, floristics and field methods

Taxonomic papers should follow the applicable nomenclatural code, cite examined material, designate types clearly and provide diagnostic evidence. Routine local inventories without adequate documentation or broader botanical significance are outside the journal's scope.
