Fieldwork Ethics, Access and Community Responsibility

Authors must obtain the permits, land-access authorization, ethics approval and informed consent required for fieldwork. Studies involving interviews, households, communities, Indigenous or local knowledge, private property, culturally significant places or vulnerable populations must identify appropriate safeguards.

Research should respect participant agency, safety, attribution and cultural protocols. Field teams must minimize environmental disturbance and avoid publishing information that could expose people, communities or places to harm.
