Manuscript Preparation

Authors should read the aims and scope before preparing a submission. A manuscript must be original, approved by all authors and not under consideration by another journal.

Types of paper

  • Research article: a full empirical, theoretical or mixed-method study.
  • Review article: a critical or systematic synthesis that reports its coverage and selection method.
  • Case study: a rigorously documented organisational, campaign or industry case with lessons beyond the case itself.
  • Methods or data paper: a validated research approach, dataset or measurement resource.
  • Short communication: a concise report of a significant finding or professional development.

Files for double-blind review

Submit a separate title page and anonymized manuscript. The title page should include author names, affiliations, corresponding-author details, ORCID iDs where available, funding, competing interests and author contributions. Remove identifying details from the review file and its properties.

Research reporting

State the research question, theoretical framework, setting, sampling, measures, data collection and analysis. Quantitative studies should report uncertainty and model choices; qualitative studies should explain recruitment, coding, reflexivity and how interpretations were developed. Case studies must distinguish evidence from organisational claims.

Participants, organisations and data

Report ethics approval or informed consent where applicable. Explain access to organisations and documents, protect confidential or personal information, and disclose the author's relationship with the organisation studied. Include a Data Availability Statement and identify lawful restrictions.

Authorship and AI

Authorship is limited to people who made a substantial contribution, approved the submitted version and accept responsibility for the work. AI tools cannot be authors. Material use of generative AI in writing, coding, analysis, transcription or image preparation must be disclosed.
