Authors retain copyright in work published by HAD and grant the journal the non-exclusive rights needed to publish, distribute and preserve the version of record.

Unless a different notice appears on an article, HAD uses the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0).

Images and cultural material

Authors must obtain permission for museum photographs, plans, archival documents, maps and other third-party material when use is not already permitted by law or licence. A CC BY licence on the article does not remove a separate cultural, custodial or legal restriction clearly identified in a caption or credit line.

Author sharing

Authors may deposit submitted, accepted and published versions in lawful repositories or academic websites. The published version should include its complete citation and a link to the journal record.
