Research Ethics, Archives and Cultural Materials

Research involving living participants, oral testimony, private correspondence, personal archives or identifiable online material requires appropriate ethics review and informed consent where applicable. Authors must respect archive rules, donor restrictions, privacy and requests for anonymity.

Work with Indigenous, minoritized or culturally restricted texts and knowledge should respect community authority, attribution, access conditions and cultural protocols. Public availability does not by itself remove ethical responsibilities.
