Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

The manuscript is original, has not been published previously and is not under consideration by another journal.
The submission fits the WLR aims and scope and states its literary question, argument and contribution clearly.
A separate title page and an anonymized manuscript have been prepared for double-blind review.
Primary texts, editions, translations, archives and scholarly sources are cited accurately and consistently.
Permissions for copyrighted extracts, translations, images, manuscripts or archival materials have been secured where required.
Funding, competing interests, author contributions, ethics or consent requirements, data availability and AI-tool use are disclosed where applicable.

Author Guidelines

Authors should read the aims and scope before submission. Manuscripts must be original, clearly written and not under review elsewhere.

Literary scholarship and method

State the research question, critical framework, corpus and contribution clearly. Identify editions, translations, archives and historical contexts accurately. Substantiate interpretations through close reading and engagement with relevant scholarship; provide page, canto, act, line or stable digital references where appropriate.

Languages, quotations and translations

Quotations in languages other than English should normally include an English translation. Identify the translator for every translated passage. If the author supplies a translation, state this consistently. Preserve diacritics and explain transliteration conventions.

Copyright, archives and cultural responsibility

Authors must secure permission for copyrighted literary extracts, translations, images, manuscripts and archival materials beyond applicable exceptions. Research involving living participants, private correspondence, oral testimony, community knowledge or culturally restricted material requires appropriate consent, ethics review and respectful handling.

Research materials

Include a Data Availability Statement when the article uses datasets, digital corpora, code or newly assembled archival materials. Cite repositories, collections, shelf marks, editions, software and access restrictions precisely.

Review files

Provide a separate title page and anonymized manuscript for double-blind review. Disclose funding, competing interests, author contributions and material use of generative AI.

Submission status

Online submissions are temporarily closed while WLR completes its editorial setup.

Privacy Statement

World Literature Review (WLR) respects the privacy of authors, reviewers, editors, readers, research participants and registered users. The journal may collect names, affiliations, contact details, ORCID iDs, account information, submission and review records, correspondence and technical logs needed to operate and secure the journal.

Use and confidentiality

Information is used to manage editorial work, publish accepted articles and metadata, maintain the scholarly record and meet ethical or legal obligations. Access to non-public material is limited to authorized people who require it for journal operations.

Research and archival information

Authors must remove personal or sensitive information that they are not authorized to publish. Private correspondence, oral histories, personal archives, participant information and culturally restricted materials must be handled according to consent, ethics, archival rules, community protocols and applicable law.

Sharing, retention and security

WLR does not sell personal information. Limited data may be processed by hosting, DOI, indexing, preservation, email or security services required to run the journal. Editorial records may be retained to document decisions and preserve research integrity. Privacy questions should be sent to the official contact address.
