Manuscript Preparation

Authors should read the journal’s aims and scope before preparing a submission. A manuscript must be original, approved by all listed authors and not under review elsewhere.

Types of paper

• Research article: a full account of experimental, computational or field research.
• Review article: a critical assessment of published work. Systematic reviews must report their search and selection method.
• Short communication: a concise paper reporting a well-supported result of limited scope.
• Methods or technical paper: a validated method, instrument, protocol, software tool or engineering procedure.
• Perspective: a reasoned discussion of an important development or unresolved problem.

Files for double-blind review

Submit a title page and an anonymized manuscript as separate files. The title page should give the authors’ names, affiliations, corresponding-author details, ORCID iDs where available, funding, competing interests and author contributions. Remove names, acknowledgements and identifying file properties from the review manuscript.

Manuscript organization

Research papers will usually include a title, abstract, four to eight keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusion, declarations and references. Other paper types may use a structure appropriate to their purpose.

Methods and reporting

• Describe the study design, controls, sampling, replication and validation.
• Identify materials, instruments, software, datasets and important parameter settings.
• Report uncertainty, statistical assumptions and sensitivity analysis where relevant.
• Use SI units and define abbreviations at first use.
• Compare a new method or system with a suitable baseline.

Ethics, safety and data

State all approvals, consent arrangements, permits and safety authorizations required for the work. Include a Data Availability Statement. Data, code and protocols should be deposited in a suitable repository where this is lawful and practicable; any restriction should be explained.

Authorship and use of AI

Authorship is limited to people who made a substantial contribution, approved the submitted version and accept responsibility for the work. An AI tool cannot be named as an author. Material use of generative AI in writing, coding, analysis or image preparation must be disclosed, and the authors remain responsible for the final content.

Submissions are temporarily closed while JASF completes its editorial setup. No manuscripts are currently being accepted.
