JASF expects authors, reviewers and editors to act honestly and to preserve the accuracy of the scholarly record.
Authors must report their work accurately, retain the underlying records, cite sources, obtain the necessary approvals and identify everyone who qualifies for authorship. Fabrication, falsification, deceptive image alteration, duplicate submission, plagiarism and manipulation of citations or peer review are not acceptable.
Reviewers must treat a manuscript as confidential, assess it fairly, return their report within the agreed period and disclose any conflict. Unpublished material must not be used for personal or professional advantage.
Editors make decisions on relevance, scientific merit, ethics and the evidence in the manuscript. They must protect confidential material and step aside when a conflict exists. A credible allegation will be examined on its evidence, with the people concerned given an opportunity to respond.
Work involving human participants, personal data, animals, biological agents, hazardous materials or regulated technology must comply with applicable law and institutional requirements. The manuscript must state the approval, consent, permit or exemption that applies.
